Diane Button is a companion for people who are dying. She eases their fears, offers non-medical support and creates peace at the end of life.
Some of her clients call her a death doula. But she prefers the term end-of-life doula because death is just one moment of one day, while Button works towards making all the days before it meaningful, she says.
Like a birth doula , she helps usher people to the next big mystery.
“Babies are being birthed into this great unknown — we did not know when we were in the womb that we would be growing many times our size and weight, and walking on the outside of a planet,” Button tells TODAY.com.
“That's what death is, too. It's just a mystery and we don't know (what’s next) and I think that's kind of a beautiful thing.”
