Seven men, including five Calgarians, are facing child pornography charges following a widely-cast investigation.

The Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT) launched Operation Ice Storm last June, sifting through massive amount of child exploitation materials, delving into peer-to-peer sharing among suspects in Calgary, Red Deer and Lethbridge.

Investigators with the Integrated Child Exploitation unit pored through 40 computers and electronic devices and found more than 405,000 images and 11,000 videos of child sexual abuse materials, said ALERT.

The officers said they don’t believe any of the victims were from Alberta or that any face-to-face offences occurred.

A spokesman for ALERT said the scope of the challenge facing its members is daunting.
