One person is dead and another was seriously injured after a crash caused a minivan to end up in a pond in Gorham.

Police responded to a two-vehicle crash on Brackett Road around 5 p.m. Monday.

As a result of the crash, a Dodge Grand Caravan ended up upside down and fully submerged in a pond, according to police.

The driver was able to get out, but two passengers were trapped. Gorham fire personnel dived in and extricated both passengers.

Police said the two passengers were taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland with serious injuries. One of the passengers, Joyce Provencher, later died from her injuries.

The driver and a passenger of the second vehicle, a Honda CRV, were taken to Maine Medical Center with injuries not considered life-threatening.
