MIAMI (AP) — Hurricane Priscilla neared Category 3 status on Tuesday in the Pacific as a new tropical storm formed in the Atlantic, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said.

Just off the west coast of Mexico, Priscilla was spinning with maximum sustained winds around 110 mph (175 kph) and moving west-northwest at 10 mph (16 kph). It was centered about 320 miles (515 kilometers) west of Cabo Corrientes, Mexico, and about 210 miles (340 kilometers) south-southwest of the southern tip of Baja California, forecasters said .
