BARABOO, Wis. (WKOW) — A man died after a fall at Devil's Lake State Park while rock climbing over the weekend.

Emergency services were dispatched to north side of West Bluff at 11:36 a.m. on Sunday for an elderly man that fell about 25 feet, according to Assistant Chief Mark Willer of the Baraboo Area Fire and EMS District.

Upon arrival, paramedics accessed the patient, who was still breathing at the time, Willer reported.

Unfortunately, despite initial access and medical attention, the man died from his injuries before the high-angle rope rescue system could be implemented.

"He lost a pulse due to injuries and he subsequently died from those injuries before the high-angle system was used," Willer said.
