At least a couple of Alabama Republican candidates with their eyes on 2026 elections are enthusiastic about the idea of sending federal troops or the National Guard to police Alabama cities.

Monday night, the Mobile County Republican Executive Committee welcomed nine candidates to a meet-and-greet session followed by a meeting in which each was given a few minutes to address the crowd. Most didn’t bring up the issue; among those who did not were U.S. Rep. Barry Moore and Ala. Attorney General Steve Marshall , who have their sights set on the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Tommy Tuberville .

But Jerry Carl , who’s running to regain the U.S. House of Representatives seat he lost to Moore in 2024, took the unusual step of asking the two of them to put in a word.
