Calgary police have charged a 28-year-old in the shooting death of a man in Forest Lawn nearly one year ago.

Shortly before 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2024, officers responded to reports of a shooting at a home on 40 Street SE.

When police arrived, they found a 62-year-old Michael Vesterfelt had been shot.

He later died from his injuries in hospital.

Following a nearly year-long investigation, Tian Pearson Gardypie, has been charged with second degree murder.

His next appearance in court is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 17.

Investigators don’t believe Vesterfelt and Gardypie knew each other at the time of the incident.
