TEL AVIV: Amid ongoing peace talks in Egypt aimed at ending the Gaza war, Hamas has presented its main conditions, including a permanent ceasefire in Gaza. However, Hamas has so far refused to agree to one of the key points in US President Donald Trump’s peace plan: the disarmament of Hamas.
Trump’s plan calls for Hamas to surrender weapons, allow members to leave Gaza with amnesty, and release all hostages. While Hamas has expressed willingness to release all prisoners and stop attacks, it has not agreed to the disarmament requirement. Hamas is also reportedly uninterested in having an international peace board, led by the US, take oversight of Gaza.
