Five crashes on Long Island in a 10-hour span ending early Monday left three people dead and five injured, according to multiple police agencies.
About 2:50 a.m. Monday in Yaphank, the driver of a southbound 2015 BMW "veered into the northbound lane" of Bellport Avenue between Long Island Avenue and Horseblock Road, the Suffolk County Police Department said in a news release . The vehicle then "left the road and struck several trees," police said in the release.
A Yaphank Fire Department EMT pronounced one of the vehicle's passengers, Edgar Guevara Ramos, 22, of Bellport, dead at the scene, police said. The driver was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Two other passengers were taken to Stony Brook for treatment of injuries not considered
