WASHINGTON — is eliminating bag sizers at airport gates in an effort to expedite its boarding process.
The Dallas-based airline carrier confirmed the change on Tuesday, Oct 7, in an email statement. Passengers will be alerted by American Airlines staff whether their carry-on bags will fit in the overhead bin at the lobby and at the boarding gate.
"As we further simplify the boarding experience for our customers and team members, American has removed bag sizers from the gate area," the statement reads.
Metal bag sizers will still be available at the lobby for passengers to check their carry-on luggage, according to the airline. Currently, carry-ons that exceed 22 x 14 x 9 inches, including wheels and handles, must be checked in.
