DETROIT — Left-hander Gabe Speier has experienced the highs and lows of a baseball career, but he’s never allowed it to push him away from the game.

The Seattle Mariners reliever spent over a decade toiling around the minors, coming up to the big leagues to often find himself going right back down.

That included a stint with the Detroit Tigers, who he now faces in the ALDS, when he was still just getting acclimated to professional baseball.

He only spent a year in the organization in 2015, being part of the trade that sent Rick Porcello to the Red Sox before being sent out to the Diamondbacks for Cameron Maybin.

Through it all, he’s stuck around the league and now finds himself in a feature role for the Mariners, trying to be a reason the Tigers are ousted from the postseason.
