New Jersey Representative introduces legislation to commemorate the two-year anniversary of Hama's surprise attack on Israel that triggered the bloody conflict that has killed tens of thousands of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

Rep. Josh Gottheimer says he's introducing the October i7th Gold Medal Act, "to award the Congressional Gold Medal" to the American hostages and victims.

Gottheimer says he's also introducing a bipartisan October 7th Remembrance Education Act, that will instruct the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum to build a model curriculum for schools to teach the heinous and brutal attacks committed on October 7th, the history of antisemitism and how it played a role in the attacks, and denial and distortion as a form of antisemitism in the wake of the attacks.

Freed hostage Ilana Gritzewsky and the cousin of antoher October 7th victim also joined the Gottheimer to tell their personal stories and call for the release of the other 48 hostages.

This comes as peace talks between Israel and Hamas resumed at an Egyptian resort city on Tuesday.

The second day of indirect negotiations at the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh is focused on a plan proposed by U.S. President Donald Trump last week that aims to bring about an end to the war.

A senior Egyptian official involved in the ceasefire talks said Hamas has demanded guarantees that Israel won’t return to war after the release of the remaining 48 hostages taken in the Oct. 7, 2023, attack, 20 of them believed by Israel to be alive. The official spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the sensitive, closed-door negotiations.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said the war will only end when all the hostages are returned and Hamas has been disarmed. He has accepted Trump's plan, which calls for Gaza to be placed under international governance and for Hamas to be disarmed, elements the militants have yet to accept.
