A 32-year-old accused shoplifter was charged Tuesday with attempting to stab a Sterling Heights police officer with a screwdriver during an arrest outside of a Walmart store, according to prosecutors.
Joshua Mills of Eastpointe was arraigned in 41A District Court in Sterling Heights on charges of assault with intent to commit great bodily harm less than murder and other crimes. Magistrate Jean Cloud set bond at $500,000.
“This kind of blatant disrespect for law enforcement will not be tolerated,” Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido said in a news release.
Police and prosecutors said on Sunday, Oct. 5 officers responded to the Walmart on Van Dyke Avenue at 14 Mile Road for a reported shoplifting.
