ST. ALBANS, Vt. (WCAX) — More than 100 community members rallied around a Vermont man at risk of deportation as he reported to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement office in St. Albans on Tuesday for a routine check-in.
Juan De La Cruz, originally from Mexico, has lived in Addison County for 20 years. After consulting with lawyers, many -- including his family -- feared he would be detained and deported during the scheduled appointment.
“It’s like living a nightmare,” said Juan De La Cruz Jr., his son. “The past week I haven’t been able to sleep. I’ve been waking up — like I don’t know — I felt like I was going to lose my dad.”
