BELHAVEN, N.C. (WITN) - A board member for two non-profits in Belhaven is accused of stealing thousands of dollars from both organizations.

Belhaven police have charged Veronica Ward with eight counts of felony embezzlement and three counts of felony identity theft.

Police say in July, the Belhaven Celebrations Committee, which puts on events like the Christmas parade and the July 4th celebration, said there had been unauthorized transactions on its checking account.

The next month, the Belhaven Memorial Museum reported the same thing.

The 61-year-old Ward turned herself in at the magistrate’s office today and is being held on $54,000 secured bonds.
