Metro Police say that on Friday morning, a 12-year-old boy was struck by an allegedly impaired, hit-and-run driver as the child crossed East Owens Avenue, approaching North 21st Street, while walking to J.D. Smith Middle School in North Las Vegas. Police found the alleged driver, Oh’Ryan Brooks, 27, later that day and said he showed signs of impairment. Brooks was arrested on related charges and remains in the Clark County Detention Center. The boy died from his injuries Monday.
