MIAMI TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WDTN) – Miami Township is warning people about a rise in vehicle thefts, especially targeting push-button or keyless starting vehicles.

Thieves are breaking in and connecting a small electronic device to the diagnostics port under the dashboard. Once this is done, the vehicle’s original fobs are disabled, and the thieves can drive away with the car in seconds.

Miami Township asks residents to be on the lookout for individuals kneeling by vehicles, appearing to work under dashboards, or tampering near the front seats. Residents should also be aware of unknown people quickly entering and exiting vehicles, and vehicles disappearing from driveways or lots overnight.
