WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — The U.S. Department of Education has awarded a significant $2.8 million grant to William & Mary’s Strategic Cultural Partnerships to launch a national program aimed at strengthening history and civics education across the nation.

This three-year initiative, titled "We the Teachers: Preparing the Next Generation Through History & Civics, " will equip teachers with the deeper content knowledge, practical teaching strategies, and professional network needed to effectively convey the nation's founding principles, as the 250th anniversary of America approaches.

Mark Hofer, the senior director in SCP and professor of educational technology in the W&M School of Education, is the project director. He shared that the goal is to empower the next generation of informed citizen
