MADISON (WKOW) -- On Tuesday, state lawmakers heard public comment on two bills that could change who's responsible for cleaning up PFAS, or forever chemicals, in Wisconsin.

Senate Bills 127 and 128 would exempt certain landowners, municipalities and firefighting agencies from enforcement under Wisconsin's Spills Law, which requires anyone who causes or controls a hazardous spill to report it to the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and clean it up.

Supporters of the bills hope they address certain circumstances that don't meet exceptions under current law.

During public comment, Evan Miller, Government Affairs Specialist with the League of Wisconsin Municipalities, gave an example of one of those circumstances.
