A convenience store in Middlesbrough is hoping to regain its licence so that alcohol can be sold once again. Premier store, on Saltersgill Avenue, lost its ability to sell booze back in February 2018, after nearly a decade. The premises licence was revoked by a licensing sub-committee following a review application by Middlesbrough Trading Standards.

Documents going in front of councillors on the sub-licensing committee explain that the 2018 review was brought following concerns around the sale of counterfeit alcohol and non-payment of UK Excise Duty. Over the past seven years, the premises has operated as a general grocery store without the benefit of a premises licence, selling items including cigarettes and household products.
