Deaths by suspected suicide on Teesside are declining year-on-year, according to figures. A mid-year overview from June showed that in the last 18 months the rate per 100,000 population in the area had decreased from 6.5 to 5.6 suspected deaths.
Middlesbrough , Redcar and Cleveland and Stockton all recorded decreases with only Hartlepool as an outlier. In Hartlepool the death by suspected suicide rate per 100,000 population rose from 4.7 to 5.9.
A presentation for members of the Tees Valley Joint Health Scrutiny Committee said prior to this all four local authorities had seen a reduction in such deaths since 2020.
