A “blanket prohibition” on green firecrackers in the Capital has failed to get the desired results as real-time enforcement is challenging, the Delhi government is expected to tell the Supreme Court (SC), sources said.
The government’s stand has been prepared ahead of the SC hearing on Wednesday on allowing green crackers in the city on Diwali.
This comes in the wake of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announcing that her government will move SC for permission to burst certified green firecrackers on Diwali.
Despite a complete ban on firecrackers, including green crackers, sources said that “violations have persisted, often due to the absence of viable alternatives and challenges in real-time enforcement.”
