Surrounded by her colleagues, and a couple of tissues, Toledo City Council President Carrie Hartman presided over her last voting meeting with expressions of gratitude.
“This has been the honor of a lifetime to serve as council president,” she said through tears. “It was obviously not an easy decision for me. I’m still having a really hard time because I don’t want to leave, and I feel very guilty for leaving my term early, but this is a tremendous opportunity for both the city and the university, and I’m very excited.”
Ms. Hartman announced Monday that she will be resigning from council to accept a job offer with the University of Toledo. There, she will take on the role of the director of government relations. Her last day on the council will be Oct. 17.
Ms. Hartman, a member of the D
