PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- The Oregon School Activities Association (OSAA) announced Monday that it officially voted to make boys volleyball a sanctioned sport.

Beginning in the spring of 2026, boys' volleyball will play its first season as a recognized sport and no longer an emerging activity. This is also the first sport that the OSAA delegate assembly has voted in since girls' wrestling in 2023.

Oregon is now the 26th state in the U.S. to officially recognize boys' volleyball. They used the OSAA’s emerging activity process, which allows the sport to grow its numbers and make sure that it can draw enough schools to participate before being considered for official sanctioning.

In the spring of 2025, there were already 68 varsity teams competing in the state of Oregon.
