CABARRUS COUNTY, N.C. — A man was sentenced to life in prison for a double murder conviction after he broke into a Kannapolis home and fatally shot two people in June 2022.

Marlon Anderson, 52, was found guilty of two counts of first-degree murder and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon following a trial in Cabarrus County Court. Anderson was subsequently given two life sentences without parole for the murder convictions and an additional 17-30-month sentence for the firearm charge.

Investigators say Anderson broke into a home on James Street in Kannapolis around 8 a.m. on June 2, 2022. Anderson then shot and killed Sharon Chambers, 61, and Benny Sloan Jr., 46.

Police say the shooting was related to a domestic incident.
