CLEVELAND, Ohio - A murder suspect accused of killing two people in Cleveland died days after the slayings when he ingested narcotics, authorities said.

Richard Koballa, 45, died Sept. 26, three days after Shaker Heights police arrested him outside an apartment building in the 2000 block of Kemper Road, authorities said.

They said they believe that Koballa had taken narcotics prior to his arrest, prompting paramedics to transport him to University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center.

During the confrontation, officers struck Koballa with a Taser and fired beanbag rounds.

At the time of his death, Koballa was at the hospital and in the custody of Cleveland police, who were investigating the shooting deaths of Joseph Szymkowski, 42, and Alissha Brown, 36, on Sept. 20.
