Australian movie and TV actor Karm Gilespie is facing immediate execution in China if he fails to overturn a conviction for drug trafficking.

Karm Gilespie, 61, who appeared in Blue Heelers and The Man from Snowy River in the 1990s, was detained by Chinese border force officers in 2013 after they found 7.5kg of methamphetamine in his luggage.

Gilespie was arrested in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou while trying to board an international flight at Baiyun Airport.

He was convicted of drug smuggling by the Guangzhou Intermediate People’s Court in June 2020 and was sentenced to death, and then appealed the decision in the Guangzhou Higher People’s Court the following month.
