PORTLAND, Ore. — A new overnight women’s shelter in Northwest Portland is one step closer to opening its doors after Blanchet House received its construction permit, which allows renovations to begin on the shelter.

Bethanie's Room is set to be Blanchet House's first shelter for women. The shelter is transgender inclusive and gender expansive. Well-behaved pets are allowed on a leash or in a crate, but the shelter is not able to accommodate minors.

The shelter, located in Portland's Slabtown neighborhood at Northwest Lovejoy Street and 17th Avenue, will provide overnight accommodations for up to 75 women once it opens later this year.
