PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The school bus driver who struck and killed a pedestrian in Providence on Oct. 2 was cited, according to a police report obtained by ABC6.

The driver was mailed a traffic citation for the following: right of way in crosswalks, due care by driver, and vehicle turning left – failure to yield right of way.

The incident occurred at approximately 5:48 a.m. on Union Avenue at the Route 10 North on-ramp.

According to police, 38-year-old Lucas Garcia, was on the crosswalk when he was struck by the school bus.

Garcia was taken to Rhode Island Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The bus driver and bus monitor remained on the scene and were the only occupants of the vehicle.

The Providence Streets Coalition held a vigil for Garcia on Tuesday afternoon.
