BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Not many people would have guessed that Southern would start the season 1-4, especially after being the preseason favorites to win the SWAC West.

The Jags can still accomplish that goal, with only one loss in conference play, but there is very little room for error moving into the second half of the season.

Southern is also coming off its second bye week in under a month, which is rare — it’s unusual to have two off weeks in such a short span. However, this is exactly what the Jags needed to regroup and prepare for the rest of the season.
