Communications Minister Anika Wells has been accused of misleading parliament by claiming she was not made aware of the Optus triple zero outage, despite her office receiving an email the day of the failure.

Optus sent correspondence to two email addresses in an attempt to notify the Albanese government of the outages in South Australia and Western Australia on September 18.

The email with the subject line "NOTIFICATION | Issue with calls to Triple Zero in SA and WA" was sent to a departmental address which it claims was not regularly monitored.

But it was also sent to an address belonging to the minister's office.

The minister’s office email address remains a secret as it was redacted by the government.
