SMITH COUNTY, Texas (KETK)-- Over the weekend, the Smith County Animal Shelter posted on Facebook that the shelter is 'operating with a limited staff'. Following three recent vacancies, Fire Marshal Chad Hogue is stepping up to serve as acting supervisor.

Commissioner and Animal Control Liaison, John Moore, said. "This isn't the first time that the fire marshal's office has stepped up to handle animal control when we had a vacancy in the supervisor position," Moore said.

Commissioner Moore said they are currently in the hiring process, trying to make a strong team at the shelter as it is presently reaching maximum capacity.

"At the moment, we're unable to take in new dogs because we have more than we're set up to handle," Moore said. "The good news is, all of these dogs have been taken
