NACOGDOCHES, Texas (KETK) -- A pack of wild hogs destroyed the blueberry patch at Stephen F. Austin State University (SFA) Gardens on Sunday. It is believed the current drought in East Texas is driving them to invade well-resourced landscapes.
SFA Gardens announced on Monday that wild hogs found their way inside a blueberry patch located at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center. The patch was protected with a deer net and two strands of barbed wire.
According to the SFA Gardens, the recent drought in the area has motivated wild hogs to search for well-watered landscapes along LaNana Creek, which lies north of the campus. Homes on Raguet Street and gardens along the creek have also faced challenges due to the hog migration.
