LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - The Laredo Police Department confirms that a woman has been arrested for allegedly opening fraudulent lines of credit under her elderly mother’s name.

On Feb. 6, a 79-year-old woman along with her daughter filed an identity theft report at the Laredo Police Department. The woman stated that someone had opened credit cards and other accounts using her information.

The woman received a court letter from Capital One stating that she was being served with a civil suit due to unpaid credit card debt. The women discovered four fraudulent lines of credit opened under the mother’s identity. The mother stated that she never applied or allowed anyone to apply for these lines of credit. The total amount owed was approximately $8,000.
