COLUMBIA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - Commissioners in Columbia County convened on Tuesday to hear residents express their concerns on a range of issues, including the data center.

“We’re giving up our resources for these billionaires to bring in data centers,” said Dewey Carey, an Appling resident.

North Augusta leaders consider new opioid recovery support role

Members are considering approval of funding that would hire a city-focused peer support specialist beginning in 2026.

Carey is concerned about living close to the center, which awaits a Georgia Power study to finalize the land sale.

“It goes into a floodplain down the hill, and there are three creeks down there. The light intensity is bad, the air, the water,” said Carey.
