Progress continues on the decades-long needed highway connection between Toledo and Columbus. The preliminary plan from the Ohio Department of Transportation, mandated by the Ohio General Assembly, has produced multiple viable options for a bypass from U.S. 23 to I-71.
ODOT will spend up to a year nailing down cost estimates and environmental feasibility to provide lawmakers with a recommendation. The option that combines the best combination of low expense, quick completion, and biggest potential economic benefit should be northwest Ohio’s most important state government priority.
Only three of the six bypass options presented by the state show economic benefits that significantly exceed the construction costs. Obviously these are the options Ohio must pursue.
