Victoria Police has confirmed as many as 77 "active court matters" may have allegedly been "impacted" by a Crime Command staff member.

A police spokesperson told ACM's Bendigo Advertiser the Victoria Public Service member was arrested on August 5 as part of a professional standards command investigation.

Police said they were working through dozens of files, including both active investigations and court matters, to re-extract and analyse data.

The spokesperson said the force would work with both the Office of Public Prosecutions and the Commonwealth Department of Public Prosecutions to ascertain the extent and impact the professional standards command inquiry would have on existing court matters.
