KAILUA-KONA (HawaiiNewsNow) - A case of mumps is prompting a closure of Harold H. Higashihara Park for sanitation.
The County of Hawaii Department of Parks and Recreation will temporarily close the park in Kailua-Kona to sanitize contact surfaces on Wednesday.
The park at 78-7300 Kuakini Highway is scheduled to reopen by 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.
The Department of Health says an infected person attended an event at the park on Sept. 25 between 4:30 and 6 p.m.
Symptoms of mumps include:
Swollen, painful salivary glands (puffy cheeks or a tender jaw)
Fever
Headache
Muscle aches
Tiredness
Loss of appetite
If you attended the event, call the health department for guidance.
