An Indian Police Service officer of the Haryana cadre, Y Puran Kumar , was found dead at his residence in Chandigarh’s Sector 11 on Tuesday afternoon, The Indian Express reported.

The police said he shot himself with a service pistol and died on the spot.

Kumar left behind a nine-page “final note” and a will, The Times of India quoted the police as saying.

A 2001-batch officer from Andhra Pradesh, Kumar was earlier posted as additional director-general of police (Rohtak range). He had been transferred last month to the post of inspector-general, Police Training Centre, Sunaria.

Kumar had gone on leave and was slated to join the new post on Wednesday, The Times of India reported.
