Sex Discrimination Commissioner Dr Anna Cody faces pressure to resign after saying she does not “understand the term biological man” in a Senate Estimates grilling.

Dr Cody was grilled at the Senate Legal and Constitutional Affairs Legislation Committee on Tuesday over comments she made at the National Press Club in September where she claimed “we are not one version of woman”.

Liberal Senator Claire Chandler pressed the commissioner on the meaning of her comments and said: “Last time I checked, a woman is an adult human female with XX chromosomes".

Dr Cody said there was “great diversity” among women.

“That includes culturally, racially marginalised women, First Nations women, women with disability, lesbians, trans women, non-binary,” she said.
