HURRICANE -- The goal was to win, and if that didn't occur, to not do anything stupid.

Mission accomplished for the high school golf teams from George Washington, Cabell Midland, Parkersburg South and especially Hurricane. The Redskins won the Class AAAA South Region tournament Tuesday at Sleepy Hollow Golf Club. GW, Cabell Midland and South finished second, third and fourth, respectively, to qualify for the state tournament next week in Wheeling.

The championships will be played on the Jones Course at the Speidel Golf Club at Oglebay Resort.

"The main goal was to get one of those four spots, but it's great to win," Hurricane coach Sam O'Dell said. "The confidence you get from winning is great going into states. You can ride that momentum."
