On Wednesday at 2:39 a.m. a freeze watch was issued by the National Weather Service valid for Friday between midnight and 10 a.m. for Westmoreland Ridges, Fayette Ridges and Higher Elevations of Indiana as well as Mercer, Venango, Forest, Lawrence, Butler, Clarion, Jefferson, Armstrong, Westmoreland, Fayette and Indiana counties.

The weather service states, "Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 28 degrees possible."

"Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing. Frost could harm sensitive outdoor vegetation. Sensitive outdoor plants may be killed if left uncovered," explains the weather service. "Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold."
