The Department for Work and Pensions has issued a warning over skyrocketing Winter Fuel Payment scams. The warning from the DWP comes as fake texts spread, promising older people £300 payouts from the benefits department.

But the texts are fake - with scammers impersonating the benefits department. The DWP has warned the scammers are sending out with fraudulent messages and websites demanding personal details

One recent example circulating falsely claimed: "Our records show that you have not yet submitted your application for the 2025–2026 Winter Fuel Payment."
