AUGUSTA, Maine (WMTW) - With Maine’s Public Utilities Commission set to consider a five-year investment plan for Central Maine Power, opponents are urging ratepayers to publicly voice their opposition to the proposal’s included rate increase.
“This is an eye-popping rate hike,” said Seth Berry, executive director for the advocacy group Our Power. “This is an incredibly significant rate case that the PUC is about to decide on.”
Last month, CMP filed with the Public Utilities Commission its " Investing in Maine’s Future Plan ," a five-year workforce and grid-strengthening initiative.
According to CMP, if approved, customers would see a $35 increase in their monthly bill over the next five years, which would raise the company’s revenue by more than $400 million.
