TAMPA, Fla. — Drivers should expect to see more kids walking and biking to school Wednesday for National Walk to School Day.

The annual event is designed to build community and get kids outside and participating in healthy activities before the school day begins. National Walk to School Day is also used as a chance for communities to spotlight school zone safety, which has become top priority for the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office in recent weeks.

As of October 8, 25 schools in Hillsborough County are now using school speed zone cameras to enforce speed limits throughout the entire school day.

What You Need To Know • 6,439 violations have been issued since September 22 • Tickets are $100 per violation • School zone speed cameras are active at 25 different Hillsborough County
