The NYPD took a man into custody who officials say fatally assaulted another man at a Brooklyn subway station Tuesday.

Police said they caught the suspect Tuesday night, several hours after he allegedly attacked the other man at the Jay Street–MetroTech stop in Downtown Brooklyn. Officers began their search after responding to a 911 call at the station around 3 p.m., when they found the victim unresponsive, badly beaten and bleeding heavily on a platform.

Emergency medical workers took him in critical condition to Methodist Hospital, where he later died. Officials have not yet released his identity as they work to notify his family.

Following the attack, police allege the suspect fled the station and got on a Bronx-bound 2 train at the Hoyt Street stop. Officers later apprehended him,
