IBERVILLE PARISH, La. (WAFB) - The Iberville Parish community is still in disbelief after a deadly shooting inside the courthouse left one deputy dead, another critically injured, and the suspect also dead.

Deputy Charles Riley was killed, and Captain Brett Stassi Jr. remains hospitalized and fighting for his life.

The Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office said the two law enforcement officers were interviewing 27-year-old Latrell Clark on Monday, Oct. 6, inside an interrogation room at the courthouse in connection with a sex crimes investigation.

According to investigators, Clark tried to grab a detective’s gun near the end of the interview. Gunfire erupted, and all three men were struck. Both Riley and Clark died, while Stassi continues to recover.
