JEFFERSON AND LEWIS COUNTIES, N.Y. (WWTI) - Tonight's forecasted cold temperatures have caused the National Weather Service to issue a Freeze Warning for both Jefferson and Lewis counties.

The alert will be in effect from midnight until 9 a.m. Thursday for both counties. The warning was issued due to the forecasted freezing temperatures that will reach into the low 30s.

Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation, and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.

The NWS said that to prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes, they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those who have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.
