Row, row, row your way to better equipment.

That’s what the Vancouver Lake Rowing Club did at its annual Erg-a-thon fundraiser at Vancouver Lake on Sept. 28.

More than 60 youth athletes each rowed 15,000 meters on indoor rowing machines, all working toward the goal of upgrading vital rowing equipment.

According to the Vancouver Lake Rowing Club, nearly 90% of its equipment — boats, oars, cox boxes, slings, and other essentials — has been in use for more than 20 years.

“With a growing roster of over 60 athletes, the need for reliable, modern equipment has never been greater,” the club said in a statement. “Funds from the Erg-a-thon will help replace worn-out gear, repair the dock, and purchase additional training tools such as stationary ergs.”
