The province’s Special Investigation Unit has found no grounds to charge an Ontario Provincial Police Officer after a man in Sabaskong First Nation was injured by a less-lethal projectile during a standoff.

The incident occurred on the morning of June 8, 2025 when officers with the Treaty Three Police Service were called to a residence in the community located approximately 75 kilometres northwest of Fort Frances.

Paramedics at the residence were treating the 22-year-old male complainant for a laceration on his hand when he threatened to retrieve a firearm.

The complainant had returned from a gathering to his mother’s home intoxicated and sustained the injury after grabbing a knife from a female.
